Whether you’re a fan of their music or not, there’s no debating that Coldplay is one of the biggest bands on earth. It is not just their music that make waves across the world but also their selfless giving and philanthropic activities also make the headlines.
While their great songs dominate various media throughout the world, their philanthropic activities are also impacting millions of lives.
They seem endless: “Stand up To Cancer’ to ‘Make A Child Smile Appeal’, Oxfam, Sport Relief, MOAS, Save the Children, Every Mother Counts. In fact, there are dozens more charities and foundations supported by Coldplay.
Coldplay Philanthropic Style – 10 Percent of Sales
Coldplay as a Musical Band has four members; that is: Christ Martin, Guy Berryman, Johnny Buckland and Will Champion.
The band is known to donate ten percent of their sales to charities and this dates way back to the year 2000, after they released their debut album, Parachutes. That album sold millions and also won them their first Grammy. It is believed that they donated ten percent of their sales to charities and this trend did not end there.
Quite recently, the band donated 10 percent of their annual net worth of $475 million to charities, and that is just about 5years ago, which is recognized as a super donation and possibly one of the biggest if not the biggest donation at that time.
Support by Musical Performance
How does it feel, to see your favorite band perform live right in front of you? Some may say it’s like watching an angel descend from the sky. In 2011, Coldplay performed at the Children in Need Manchester fundraising concert alongside other stars in the music industry. According to Wikipedia, the concert raised £2,500,000.
Other Philanthropic Work
In 2013, The Band donated an acoustic version of their song, ‘In My Place,’ for an Oxfam campaign video.
In June 2022, Redemption Song Inc. joined the recipients list of entities and people impacted by Coldplay when their team contacted the organization with a surprise keyboard donation, which will be transferred to a child dreaming of music but lacking the means to get it started. Imagine the impact on that child knowing that Coldplay sent it into their life. That’s using power how it was meant to be used.
Coldplay is a leader in the idea of musicians, and anyone for that matter, “playing” it forward. A stellar example of how we can share our lives, our talents, our innate love.
